How to calculate Amazon FBA fees and profit

The calculator subtracts Amazon fees and your own costs from the selling price.

  • Referral fee = the larger of price x referral rate and the minimum fee
  • FBA fee = the fee you enter for your size and weight
  • Advertising = price x advertising percentage
  • Plan share = monthly plan price / units sold per month
  • Profit = price – product cost – inbound shipping – all fees and costs

Worked example

A product sells for $25.00 and costs $7.00. Inbound shipping is $0.60 per unit. The referral fee is 15%, which is $3.75. The FBA fee is $4.00, storage is $0.20, advertising is 8% of the price which is $2.00, and the $39.99 plan shared over 300 units adds $0.13. Total Amazon and ad costs are $10.08, and the profit is 25 – 7 – 0.60 – 10.08 = $7.32 per unit, a margin of 29.3%. That is a return of 96.3% on your product and shipping cost.

Run the numbers at several prices. The referral fee grows with the price, but the FBA fee depends on size and weight, so a small price rise often adds profit. Test an advertising percentage that matches your launch plan.

Assumptions & limits

  • The referral rate, the $0.30 minimum and the $39.99 plan price come from the Amazon seller pricing page checked on November 5, 2026. The page lists 15% for many categories, such as Home and Kitchen, and different rates for others, such as 8% for Consumer Electronics.
  • The FBA fulfillment fee and storage fee are placeholders. Amazon sets them by size tier and weight, and they are not on the pricing page, so look yours up and edit the fields.
  • Returns, long-term storage fees, removal fees, taxes and currency conversion are not included.
  • Referral fees can have tiers by price, such as Clothing, so edit the rate for your price.
  • It is a planning tool, not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Amazon referral fee?

It is a percentage of the selling price that Amazon charges, which depends on the category. Many categories use 15 percent.

How do I find my FBA fulfillment fee?

Use the FBA rates on Amazon for your product size tier and weight, then enter it in the field.

Is the Professional plan worth it?

What margin is good on Amazon?

It depends on your product and goals. Use the return on cost figure to compare products, and keep a buffer for returns.
