What does this Etsy fee calculator work out?
Etsy sellers usually pay a listing fee, a transaction fee and a payment processing fee, and sometimes an Offsite Ads fee. This Etsy fee calculator adds them up for one order and shows what is left for you. Default rates are US rates as published on eBay’s Selling fees page and Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy page in October 2026. Fees can differ by category, country and account, so edit the rates to match yours.
The defaults are a 0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and 3% plus 0.25 payment processing, with the transaction fee applied to item price plus shipping and the payment processing percentage applied to item price plus shipping plus any sales tax. The Offsite Ads rate starts at 15% with a 100 cap per order. Nothing here is official or guaranteed, so compare it with your own Etsy statement.
How to use this Etsy fee calculator
- Enter the item price and the shipping you charge the buyer.
- Add your own costs: what the item cost you, the shipping label and anything else you pay per order.
- Keep the listing fee box ticked if the order carries a listing fee. Tick the Offsite Ads box only if the sale came through those ads.
- Check the rate boxes, edit any that differ for you, then press Calculate or Enter. Reset restores the starting values.
The formulas
- Base = item price + shipping charged
- Sales tax = the optional sales tax collected on the order (it is not revenue)
- Listing fee = the listing fee, only if the box is ticked
- Transaction fee = transaction % x base
- Payment processing = processing % x (base + sales tax) + the fixed fee
- Offsite Ads fee = the smaller of (Offsite % x base) and the cap, only if the box is ticked
- Total fees = the sum of those four
- Net payout = base – total fees
- Profit = net payout – item cost – label cost – other costs
- Margin = profit / base, and effective fee rate = total fees / base
Etsy’s payment processing fee is charged on the full order amount, including delivery and any sales tax; the transaction fee is not charged on US sales tax. Sales tax is not part of your revenue, so net payout, profit, margin and the effective fee rate still use item plus shipping.
Worked example
An item sells for 100 with no shipping charged and costs you 30. The listing fee is 0.20, the transaction fee is 6.5% of 100, which is 6.50, and processing is 3% of 100 plus 0.25, which is 3.25. Total fees are 9.95, an effective rate of 9.95% of the sale. Net payout is 90.05 and profit is 90.05 – 30 = 60.05, a margin of 60.05%.
Now say a 30 item sold through Offsite Ads. The Offsite fee is 15% of 30, which is 4.50. Total fees become 0.20 + 1.95 + 1.15 + 4.50 = 7.80, which is 26% of the sale. For a 700 item the 15% would be 105, but the cap holds it at 100.
Assumptions & limits
- The calculator handles one order at a time and one listing fee per order. If you renew or relist, change the listing fee box.
- Currency conversion, regional or VAT-style fees, refunds, advertising you pay for yourself and income tax are not included. Add what applies under other costs.
- Etsy’s payment processing fee is charged on the full order amount, including delivery and any sales tax; the transaction fee is not charged on US sales tax. Leave the sales tax box at 0 if you do not want to include it.
- Etsy rates and rules change, and your own account can differ, so treat the defaults as editable starting points.
- This is a planning tool, not financial or tax advice, and it does not claim to match Etsy’s own figures to the cent.
Frequently asked questions
Is the listing fee charged on every order?
That depends on how and when the item was listed. The tick box lets you include it or leave it out, and you can edit the amount.
What is applied to item price plus shipping?
In this calculator the transaction fee uses item price plus shipping as its base. The payment processing percentage uses item price plus shipping plus any sales tax you enter. You can confirm how your own statement works.
What are Offsite Ads fees?
They apply only when a sale comes through those ads. Tick the box to include the fee, which is a percentage of the base up to the cap you enter.
Why is there a 12% note on the Offsite Ads rate?
The rate can be lower for shops that earned 10,000 or more in the last 12 months. Change the percentage box to the rate that applies to you.
Is profit shown before or after tax?
Before any income tax. The calculator only subtracts the costs you enter.
Can I change every rate?
Yes. Every fee and rate is an editable box, so you can match your own account.
