How much are eBay fees?
This eBay fees calculator works from the rates you type in, because the answer depends on your category, country and account. Default rates are US rates as published on eBay’s Selling fees page and Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy page in October 2026. Fees can differ by category, country and account, so edit the rates to match yours.
The defaults in the boxes are a 13.6% final value fee on the part of the total sale up to 7,500, 2.35% on the part above that, and a per-order fee of 0.30 for orders of 10 or less or 0.40 for orders over 10. The promoted listing ad rate starts at 0%. Nothing here is official or guaranteed, so check your own fee statement.
How to use this eBay fee calculator
- Enter the item price. Add the shipping you charge the buyer and any sales tax collected.
- Add your own costs: what the item cost you, the shipping label and anything else you pay per order.
- Check the rate boxes and change them if your fees differ. Set the ad rate if you promote the listing.
- Press Calculate or Enter. Reset puts every box back to its starting value.
The formulas
- Total sale = item price + shipping + sales tax
- Final value fee = fee % x the part of the total sale up to the threshold + the higher-tier fee % x the part above the threshold
- Per-order fee = the low fee if the total sale is 10 or less, otherwise the higher fee
- Ad fee = ad rate % x total sale
- Total fees = final value fee + per-order fee + ad fee
- Seller revenue = item price + shipping (tax is passed through, so it is not revenue)
- Net payout = revenue – total fees
- Profit = net payout – item cost – label cost – other costs
- Margin = profit / revenue, and effective fee rate = total fees / total sale
Worked example
You sell an item for 50 and charge 8 for shipping, with no sales tax. The total sale is 58. The final value fee is 13.6% of 58, which is 7.888, shown as 7.89. The per-order fee is 0.40 because the order is over 10, so total fees are 8.288, shown as 8.29. That is an effective fee rate of 14.29% of the total sale. Your revenue is 58, so the net payout is 49.712, shown as 49.71.
If the item cost 12 and the label cost 6, profit is 49.712 – 12 – 6 = 31.712, shown as 31.71, which is a margin of 54.68%. Results are rounded only for display.
Assumptions & limits
- The calculator applies one final value fee rate and one threshold to the whole total sale. Fee rates that vary by category are not looked up for you, so edit the rate.
- Sales tax is included when working out the fee base, but it is not counted as revenue.
- Currency conversion fees, returns, refunds, subscription fees, international fees and taxes on your income are not included. Add them under other costs if they apply.
- Optional charges such as insertion fees beyond your free monthly listings are not included.
- This is a planning tool, not financial or tax advice, and it does not claim to match eBay’s own figures to the cent.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the fee base include shipping and sales tax?
The defaults treat the final value fee as a percentage of the total sale amount, which includes shipping and sales tax. You can check your own fee statement to confirm how it applies to you.
What is the per-order fee?
A small fixed fee per order. This tool uses one amount for orders of 10 or less and another for orders over 10, and both are editable.
What does the threshold mean?
It is the point where a lower fee percentage applies to the part of the sale above it. Most everyday orders stay below it, so only the first percentage matters.
How do promoted listing fees work here?
Enter your ad rate. The calculator multiplies it by the total sale amount and adds the result to total fees. Leave it at 0 if you do not promote the listing.
Is profit shown before or after tax?
Before any income tax. The calculator only subtracts the costs you enter.
Can I use this for other currencies?
You can type amounts in any currency, but the default per-order fees and the 10 cutoff are written in dollars, so edit them to suit your account.
